A 5 Minute Praise Devotion
y
O God, we give glory to you all day long and constantly praise your name. Interlude
Constantly. That's a lot. Or, as the Apostle Paul said, ". . . without ceasing." Don't ever stop. Just continue. These thoughts had me "mind-boggled" as a young Christian.
I put myself under quite a bit of pressure. Especially concerning prayer, since I didn't know that much about praise. And there's a good point. Many times, we don't learn much about praise because there are not a lot of folk teaching about praise. But I know one thing for sure, The Spirit is. Teaching about praise, that is . . . But, I digress.
I was very worried about praying without ceasing. I just couldn't imagine. My prayers we short, to the point, and any attempt to lengthen them just became, well, silly on my part. Been there?
Thank God I learned something. First I learned that if you love the Lord, everything always works out. Second is that as you age in the Lord, you rely more and more on Him. Prayer used to be scheduled (which is still good but not an end in itself). Now I find myself praying all the time. (Could this be what Paul referred to as "without ceasing?) When "stuff happens." I'm constantly talking to my Father about it. Which makes good sense because He's usually the only one who cares about some things and the only one who can change things in many cases. Sorry, long paragraph.
Now, what I began to do with prayer, I have done with praise, also. My spiritual eyes are tunes to praiseworthy occurrences. They happen all the time. So, guess what. That's right. I find myself thanking and praising all the time. Even more than prayer. Hey! Prayer and Praise are the same in that they are both "talking to God" but prayer is asking and praise is acknowledging the answer and the "answerer!!!"
So prayer and praise go hand in hand. The more you ask, the more He answers, the more we thank and praise! After all these years (really not that many), I find that I am constantly talking to my Father, either in petition or praise. Oh yeah, a lot of the time I just talk to Him. Well, it's OK . . . . . He's my Father!
Praise The Lord!
