A 5 Minute Praise Devotion

 Then you will sing

Ephesians 5:17-19
Don't act thoughtlessly, but try to understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, let the Holy Spirit fill and control you. Then you will sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, making music to the Lord in your hearts.

Common sense just isn't that common anymore.  Actually, I'm not sure if I ever lived in a time when "sense" was "common."  Sometimes, just beneath the thin veneer of what we refer to as "sanity," there is the real pain, fear, and just down-right stupidity running rampant.

Like this:  The word tells us that being drunk will ruin lives.  Right at this moment I know two sweet gentle people who are fighting the fight of their lives in treatment centers.  Where was common sense when they were entering lifestyles that would end in death if not interrupted.

The up-side:  God spoke 2000 years ago.  In a world that too often has a habit of trying to remove the destructive without replacing it with anything, He had a plan.  Just as alcohol and drugs fill and control, so will the precious Holy Spirit.  Only this time for restoration, not destruction.  His control is the gentle guiding hand and not the overpowering haze.

Here's a prescription that will work.  Don't be filled with old wine - but be continually in the process of being filled with the New Wine!  The Greek in the passage above suggests a process, at least daily.  As we give out in praise He gives back in presence.  Then we will find ourselves singing songs, hymns and Spiritual songs and we are free to be free!

Begin now to apply some "uncommon" sense.

Praise His Holy Name!
